july 30: catching up again

First, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to my darling sister-in-law, PL. She’s one classy doll.

Second, HOLY CRAP IT’S BEEN MORE THAN ONE WEEK SINCE I POSTED LAST. What have I been doing you ask? Well:

July 22: a Friday and so a pizza night. This week’s was EXTREMELY disappointing because I somehow didn’t put enough salt in the crust (absentmindedness brought on by excessive exposure to humid weather) and ended up with a bland flour disc. Thank goodness for tasty portobello mushrooms is all I can say. Anyway, the new resolution for Friday was to go to bed before midnight and I failed miserably.

July 23: a Saturday spent largely in recovery because someone decided that he wanted to hang out from 3am-5am. If you guessed A., you’re obviously correct. No resolution on this day. No anything on this day except sleep, work, and coffee.

July 24: Sunday coffee with ER and LG. Test drove a pair of shoes from Payless which were Painful. Resolved to write one chapter for book. Very successful.

July 25: Sexy AB arrives for a visit but before she gets here I manage to find time to reorganize a section of my closet such that my purses are no longer gathering dust on the floor with my boots. They now have a spiffy shelf all their own!

July 26: resolved to yoga it up even with company here. I was successful but it was a dumb idea as I was exhausted for the rest of the day. Note to self: consider the arrival of company an arrival of vacation from working out.

July 27: Went to The Works with Sexy AB and tried a brand new burger that was way out of my comfort zone. The triple threat with a veggie burger and bacon (you read that right)? AWESOMEST BURGER EVER. Nom.

July 28: post-Sexy AB visit and therefore slightly blue. Picked up spirits by busting out some puzzle-ing good times with Budsie. Resolved to remember to fill my adorable butter dish as there are few things more frustrating then making toast for toast with jam and realizing that your butter is harder than steel.

July 29: wicked good night with AH and KM at Quinn’s Pub. But before these wicked good times, resolved to bust out of my earring rut and wear a pair that I hadn’t in ages. Success but I remember now why I never wear them – too heavy. Meant for elephant ears or something. Ah well.

And today’s resolution is easy – pick out some prezzies for my brother’s soon-to-be-born baby boy. Baby shopping? An awesome way to spend a Saturday I think.

I’ll have more interesting things to say tomorrow. Now I must be off to work some more and then I have a park date with my boys.

july 20: happy birthday cassy w.!

See these beautiful wedding invitations?

My fabulous cousin Cassy W. did these for us. Did I mention that she also designed the new logo and business card for Ezmy Writes? Yep, she’s amazing. She’s stylish and funny and she’s one of the nicest people I know. Oh and she has the BEST stories. She’s also 21 today – OMG! Most thrilled for her. xoxo

In other non-birthday related news, I’ve decided that it’s high time we updated our bathroom. Having very little money will make this challenging, but who doesn’t like a good challenge? The people who owned the house before us attempted a sort of half ass celestial theme in here. You know what I mean – bright blue and yellow with gold accessories and a spattering of smug-faced suns and moons all over the walls and shower curtain. The kind of thing that was popular in 1994. I don’t judge; I loved that theme too. Of course, I was 14 at the time and thought that belly chains were cool (remember belly chains?!?)….but whatever.

Thankfully, they took their smug-faced suns and moons with them. Unfortunately, they left behind a blue (albeit heated) tiled floor with bright yellow walls and some weird floral trim on the shower tiles (it’s unclear how the florals fit in…). The floor has to stay, unfortunately, but that doesn’t mean I can’t redo everything else. Ezmy’s adventures in re-cocking (*snicker*) a tub? You’re in for a treat I’m sure!

But I can’t jump into the cocking (*snicker*) just yet. First, I’m going to do the only free thing that I can do and get paint chip samples. That’s the resolution for today: find a paint colour for the bathroom that a) works with the stupid floors and b) is agreeable to both A. and myself (a bigger challenge than one might expect).

Update on previous resolutions: ‘AM Yoga for Your Week’ with Mr. Yee will be mine! I’ve heard very good things.

Note: I do in fact know how to spell “caulking”. But choose to ignore that I do. Most mature.

july 19: expand my yoga horizons

So we all know that I spend each morning with this man:

And I love Mr. Yee. I find his voice comforting in times of strain (such as when I’m in some sort of reverse bow position and the blood is leaving my brain and my arms start rebelling and I start wondering why the hell I’m hanging myself upside down at six in the morning). But lately, I’ve been hungering for a different routine. Not that this routine can’t include Mr. Yee, but I need some different moves, different challenges. A different 45-60 minute start to the day. I’d like it if this could be a class but alas, the funds do not allow. I’d really like to try Bikram yoga, although it scares the crap out of me. Anyway, today I will research yoga DVDs and find something new and spiffy. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In other news, ‘Ezmy Writes’ now has a Facebook page. Showing me a little ‘like’ action and perhaps mentioning to those who you think might be interested that I can proofread and edit with the best of them would, I feel, bring you good karma.

In still further news, Budsie stands and walks around furniture quite regularly these days. The world as I know it is coming to an end…

july 14-18: catch up and conversation

First, how did the last few days go? Quite awesomely, actually.

July 14: take Budsie to the National Gallery again. Because the last time he went, he was two seconds old and slept the whole time. We saw the Caravaggio exhibit and it was awesome. Except for the beheading section.

July 15: an impromptu resolution that saw me NOT say something nasty to someone who deserved it. Rise above, I said to myself. And I did.

July 16: keep spare batteries in the house. Budsie’s music machine died and I had to rip the batteries out of our remote control in order to save the day. I mean, I did save the day but I would have preferred just going to the cupboard to get new batteries. Damn you, Playskool and your addictive music machines.

July 17: Try something new at the movies. I got almond M&Ms instead of popcorn. You know why? Because I don’t like movie theatre popcorn. I can’t stand the stuff. I always get it, though, because I love popcorn with a movie but I just like my popcorn and I’m not one of those organized types who remembers to make her own popcorn and sneak it in her purse. The M&Ms were awesome. Success.

And today’s resolution? To not let the end of the Harry Potter movies get me too down. Pathetic? A little bit. Do I care? Not so much.

Oh yes and here’s an example of a Monday night conversation with A.:

*watching The Office, season six Christmas episode*

Ezmy: “That’s what I want for Christmas.”

A.: “What?”

Ezmy: “The twelve days of Christmas.”

A.: “Ok baby.”

Ezmy: “But I want it in cake.”

A.: “…”

Ezmy: “Yes, in cake. I want the 12 days of Christmas in cake.”

A.: “In cake.”

Ezmy: “Yes. Like a partridge-shaped cake and french hen-shaped cakes. Twelve drummer cakes. Yes, that’s what I want.”

A.: “That’s nice dear.”

july 13: happy birthday fialonia

A pair of sexy ladies, no? That’s a picture of me and the lovely Fialonia, my dear cousin who lived with me while A. was off gallivanting about K-town. It was a wicked good year full of crazy dinner experiments, long study nights, wine, candy runs to 7-11 a la residence days, dancing, wine, and disgustingly early morning runs. And wine. Fialonia saved my ass from sinking into the depths of despair on a number of occasions and for that I am eternally grateful.

Today is Fialonia’s birthday. Fialonia is the first cousin who I remember being born. I was almost 7 and I was so so so excited about a new baby, particularly given that my mother’s baby train appeared to have ended. A couple of months after she was born, I got to fly down by myself to see her. I still remember being thrilled about ordering 7-up on the plane because there was no one around to tell me not too. And I remember that she was soooo teeny and cute. Gah!

Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY FIALONIA! You are the bestest. xox

On the resolution front, I totally didn’t get to the deck yesterday because I decided to re-arrange our kitchen cupboards instead. No more will I be attacked by pencil cups, phone books, Tupperware or pot lids that are desperate to leave their cupboard. So let’s say that today’s resolution is the deck and yesterday’s was the cupboards, shall we? Excellent.

july 12: patio season

At my last apartment there was an enormous balcony off of the living room. I loved this balcony and spent obscene amounts of time writing and reading on it. I miss this balcony oh so much. *sighs wistfully*

Our current house has a teensy deck with a few stairs leading down to the postage stamp backyard. It is currently home to a recycling bin (which should be under it…oops), an Afghan rug, a sad set of patio furniture and an even sadder little birdseed bell (totally would have hung this but still haven’t figured out how…I suspect I’m going to have to give up and toss this little guy).

A little pathetic, isn’t it?

Today’s resolution: clean off this deck and ready it for patio season. In this crazy Ontario heat, one really must have a patio on which to sip cool beverages while the kid plays in the kiddie pool. This patio is the shadiest place in town, which during the summer months makes it the bestest place in town. The furniture doesn’t fit though so I’m officially on the look out for a small second hand table and two chairs for our teensy patio. I’m having visions of A. and I drinking beer and playing cards outside after Budsie goes to sleep. These visions must become reality!

july 11: a visual update

Man I’ve been busy. Some of my more recent resolutions have required more time than I expected, leaving little extra time to write about them. Not a bad thing, I suppose, but still. My four or five loyal fans must be desperate for an update. :P

Well here it is:

July 6 (well, technically July 7 in the end): ezmy figures out where the water temperature adjuster is. Once she decides to be brave enough to take that cover off, she will no longer get burned alive when doing diaper laundry or washing dishes.

July 7: ezmy hangs the spiffy mobile from sexy AB in Budsie’s room. Scale model of the planets in our solar system. Do you see Pluto? I do! I, like the makers of this mobile, am of the mind that Pluto is still a planet. Pfft to scientific evidence that suggests otherwise. (note: the picture is terrible because I had to take it while Budsie was sleeping. But you get the idea.)

July 8: ezmy starts some curtains for Budsie’s room (finished product below…kinda dull but I’ll jazz them up soon…and take pictures during the day). She also continues the Friday pizza night with a scrumptious oregano, mushroom and garlic number. Nom!!

July 9: ezmy uses up some more gift cards from her bridal shower, purchasing some snazzy indoor footwear and other sexy items that she will not be posting pictures of, much to your dismay. The goal was to use all gift cards but I couldn’t find time for the reflexology or the mani/pedi. Next week…

July 10: ezmy starts puzzling again! YAYA for puzzles. This one is particularly challenging. Damn Van Gogh and his love of blue.

Today’s resolution: ezmy posts an ad for a rocking chair and for a 3 drawer white dresser for Ewan’s room. She also finishes this little project to hang in Budsie’s now complete room:

Phew! And this week is looking just as busy. I’ve got family coming in from Vancouver and Toronto. YAYA for visits from the W/Z crowd! But don’t think this will get in the way of my daily projects. I’ve been feeling more inspired than usual lately. Something about being very poor but very happy. :)

Update on previous resolutions: Yoga every day has officially become as important as food. I skipped it yesterday in favour of completing Budsie’s room and felt completely off balance all day. Lesson learned. In other news, thanks to yoga I have also accomplished this resolution. Woot!!

*gah*

1 Baby not napping

+

1 Mum with a serious case of witching hour insomnia (who wakes up at 3:30 and stays up until 5:00??)

+

missed yoga (just today, thank god)

+

no time for coffee (also just today otherwise there would be injuries)

=

No resolutions for Ezmy. I have three just waiting here but have yet to find a moment to myself to complete them. Boo to today. Boo to yesterday. Boo to the day before yesterday. Booooo.
